General cargo
This most all-round part of the port, the Hansa quay, has 13 berths where conventional general cargo, heavy lift cargo and bulk cargo vessels are handled, mostly in tramp traffic.
General Cargo Terminal GmbH (GCT), with an annual cargo handling volume of more than 1 million tons, is the leading company for handling of all kinds of conventional cargo in the port of Rostock. Main commodities are steel products, nonferrous metals, plaster boards, project cargo, heavy cargo, bags, scrap and cement. Furthermore the handling and storage of container and bulk cargo belong to the range of services.
Besides a number of heavy-duty cranes of up to 100 tons hoisting capacity and forklifts up to 32 tons capacity GCT operates dedicated terminals for scrap and bags.
For storage, distribution and value added services there are three quay sheds (63,000 m²) and ca. 105,000 m² open storge, all connected by rail, road and water.
