Intermodal transport
In 2011 total 76.720 units with about 1.5 million tons were handled.
Rostock Trimodal GmbH (RTM) has been commissioned to operate the terminal. It is a joint venture of Seehafen Rostock Umschlagsgesellschaft mbH (64.8 %), Kombiverkehr Deutsche Gesellschaft für kombinierten Güterverkehr mbH & Co. KG (25.2 %) and Hafen-Entwicklungsgesellschaft Rostock mbH (10 %).
Daily shuttle trains run to and from Verona, Novara, Basel, Domodossola, Hamburg, Wels (Austria) and Brno. Their cargo is carried to and from Scandinavia on RoRo vessels or ferries. Via the hubs of Duisburg and Hamburg the entire intermodal network can be used.
In order to do justice to this development the terminal was extended. The intermodal terminal with a total area of 70,000 sq. metres is on pier 1 and thus directly adjacent to the ferry and RoRo services. It commands several groups of sidings and special stackers with a hoisting capacity of up to 45 tons. The proximity of the terminal to the berths allows for short times in port and thus offers ideal conditions for optimising the logistics chain, which also includes direct access to motorways A19 and A20.
Rostock Trimodal GmbH is certified to ISO 9001:2008.
